Services & Programs Provided

The San Ysidro Business Association has a variety of programs and activities. All of them are designed to help improve commerce in San Ysidro and the business community.

PROGRAMS

  • Banner Program - SYBA has partnered with the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce to place seasonal and or banners with a particular theme on all light poles, and offer a sponsorship to large and small business alike.

  • Clean up Program - As part of our member services SYBA contracts with a local non-profit (Hearts and Hands Working Together) to provide litter pick up and landscape maintenance along our commercial corridors and to our medians and the City parking lot on E. San Ysidro Boulevard. Our commercial areas have been kept clean since the inception of this program.

  • Design Guidelines – The SYBA Design Committee have a variety of design guidelines for signage, color, landscaping and storefronts. We will work closely with the business or property owner as they go through the SIP and can help them find qualified contractors, and architects. We also have information on ADA requirements.

  • San Ysidro Transportation Collaborative - The SYBA founded this group with the mission of creating a communication vehicle directed by a broad cross-section of San Ysidro community organizations, with the participation of the public transportation entities, and other key supporting elected officials, organizations, businesses, and individuals, together, to discuss and give input to design for transportation solutions that will enhance and revitalize the business and residential community of San Ysidro.

  • Storefront Improvement Program (SIP) - The SIP is a City of San Diego sponsored program that provides property and business owners a rebate on improvements made to their storefronts. This money can be used for new signage, paint, windows, awnings, lighting, paving of parking lots, or improvements to bring the building into ADA compliance.

2007 San Ysidro Transportation Collaborative Updates (SYTC)

  • San Ysidro Transportation Collaborative - The City of San Diego has received a grant from Caltrans for a mobility study in San Ysidro. This study will evaluate the traffic circulation issues of the San Ysidro Community. It will look specifically at the relationship between traffic circulation on surface streets, and freeways and the impact of the border. It will identify all modes of transportation – pedestrians, bicycles, and mass transit and determine how they can be used most effectively. It will as provide input from the community on future projects such as the GSA San Ysidro Port of Entry reconfiguration, and the Pilot Village project.

The goal will be to identify specific problem areas and possible solutions and to come up with a plan that can serve as the basis for the Circulation Element of the San Ysidro Community Plan. The study is expected to be finished by the end of 2007.

2008 San Ysidro Transportation Collaborative Updates (SYTC)

  • The consultant for the San Ysidro Mobility Study, Estrada Land Planning, has completed a preliminary Mini Report for public comment.  We have posted this report here to encourage everyone to read it and offer their comments to us.  Please feel free to comment on the nine major recommendations and/or the report in general.  All comments must be received by March 1, 2008

In addition to our on going programs the SYBA also sponsors one event and is involved in several projects.

  • Holidays on the Border - The SYBA brings Santa Claus from the North Pole to a few shopping centers to visit local children and pass out goodies. Because of his busy schedule this time of year we never can tell the exact dates, but it is usually the first two Saturdays of December.

  • Tree Planting - The SYBA has been able to secure street trees from the Mayors tree program. The Business Improvement District Council (BIDC) will be planting these trees throughout our business district.

  • Street Lights - We have worked with the City of San Diego Redevelopment Agency to install double acorn lights in our Adopt A Block on W. San Ysidro Blvd. and to get additional lights installed for the Friendship Plaza II project. We are currently working to get 17 double acorn lights installed on E. San Ysidro Blvd. from KFC to Bolton Hall Rd. and 48 additional cobra lights.
